Pro Cyclist Support
Supporting the riders in the Launceston Pro Ex daily rides will be Richie Porte, Matt Goss, Team Jayco AIS and Genesys team!
Richie Porte
Born in Launceston, the city of cyclists, Richie Porte started out as a triathlete and moved onto cycling at 21 years of age.
Since the change of focus, Porte’s cycling skills have flourished, now racing for Team Saxo Bank, which is arguably one of the world’s strongest cycling teams.
Porte continues to impress cycling critics, claiming the Young Rider Jersey competition in the 2010 Giro d'Italia and wearing the leader’s pink jersey for three days in his first year on the professional circuit.
Further reinforcing Porte has a promising future in cycling; he finished an impressive fifth in the stage 20 time trial of the 2011 Tour de France and was recently appointed to Australia’s team for the UCI Road World Championships.
Matthew Goss
Launceston local, Matthew Goss is a current international UCI pro rider representing HTC-Highroad team in track and road events.
He has acquired an impressive track record, including a silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games for the Teams Pursuit, the title of Team Pursuit at the World Championships in 2005 and 2006 and placed 1st at the 9th stage of the 2010 Giro d’Italia.
Matthew supports the pivotal role of junior development and subsequently holds the title of advisor to the management committee and team ambassador for the RECAB cycling development team in Tasmania.
Most recently, Goss played a key role in supporting Mark Cavendish’s claim to the enviable green jersey at the 2011 Tour de France and will lead Australia’s team as captain for the UCI Road World Championships.
