Become a Volunteer
GEELONG MULTI SPORT FESTIVAL 2014 VOLUNTEERS REGISTRATIONS WILL OPEN SOON!
We are on the lookout for enthusiastic local clubs and passionate community oriented people to join our volunteer team for the 4th Geelong Multi Sport Festival – 7 to 9 February, 2014.
There are a range of volunteer roles available for all levels of experience and capabilities. As a bonus, volunteers can enjoy supporting the events while taking in the sights around Geelong’s picturesque waterfront!
About the Event
The annual Geelong Multi Sport Festival delivers a weekend of sport and community activities. The varied festival events attract national and local competitors and provide events for all ages and abilities. It encourages community and family involvement.
For the community there will be a family golf day, a free Sport and Lifestyle Expo in Steampacket Gardens, entertainment, displays plus more!
Fundraising for your club
Is your club or group interested in Volunteering as an opportunity to raise funds?
This is a great way for clubs and groups to fundraise without having to ask their members for money, all you ask for is a few hours on a weekend. The members also have the opportunity to learn skills, participate in exciting events, contribute to the community and be part of a diverse team.
A generous donation to your club is offered in return for your organising skills and sourcing volunteers.
The Benefits to Volunteering
The benefits that come along with volunteering is being an integral part of an exciting and exhilarating event that is held on our beautiful waterfront, botanic gardens and surrounds.
You may also be given the opportunity to help a child compete in their first triathlon, see some of Australia’s and the World’s best athletes, and generally help bring the city of Geelong alive.
As part of your involvement on the day, you will also receive:
• Event T-Shirt, snack, drink and sunscreen.
• Pre-event Briefing and support on the day.
You are also covered under USM’s public liability insurance.
Volunteer Roles and Descriptions
We greatly appreciate any support that you can give, and we will do our best to ensure that you enjoy your time with us. Volunteers are a valuable asset to our event.
Without you we are not able to provide a safe and enjoyable event. The work takes place in a festival-like atmosphere, where you can be a part of the action and watch athletes and entertainers perform.
Volunteers are required to carry out essential roles in the lead up and during the event.
We ask you to bring along your enthusiasm and energy. For many roles, experience in events, cycling, tourism or hospitality is not essential. Most roles are not labour intensive. We do suggest that you read the role descriptions for more information.
Some of the roles we require volunteers for are:
* Race Kit Packing.
* Check In of athletes prior to the event.
* Marshalling in Transition.
* Marshals to help Police and traffic controllers ensure that the athletes are competing in a safe controlled environment when they are cycling and running on the roads. These volunteers must be over 18 years of age.
* Volunteers to man aid stations (provide water, sports drinks for the runners while they are out on the course).
* Marshals to control pedestrian crossings.
* Volunteers to remove timing chips at the finish area.
* Section Leaders.
We are also looking for volunteers who would like to take on the roles of section leaders. This allocation will be based on previous skills and experience in particular areas. If you would like to take on the role of Section Leader, please let us know when you sign up to a role.
