Media Release - Mandurah to host IronKids event
Before the legends of triathlon do battle in the gruelling IRONMAN 70.3 Mandurah, a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21.2km run, USM EVENTS are calling on kids to join the action and excitement in an event just for them, the IronKids Mandurah.
IronKids Mandurah will be held on Saturday 20 October 2012 and will give children the opportunity to ‘try a tri’ with short achievable distances, on a completely safe course with adult helpers to ensure you have a fun event.
The event is designed for kids aged 7 to 13 years and aims to give every child, regardless of expertise, the chance to experience how good exercise feels, to enjoy activity with friends and to improve their skills.
USM EVENTS conduct all kids events with the aim of encouraging children to take part and inspire them to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle and encourage them to be a champion no matter what their skill or fitness level.
These events provide kids with an opportunity to swim, cycle and run for fun, plus take home a medal for having a go. It doesn’t matter how good they are at sport, it gives them the chance to challenge themselves, get healthy and active and boost their self esteem.
The event is divided into two age categories with the 7-10 year olds’ course comprising a 100m swim, 2.5km cycle and 500m run. IronKids in the 11-13 years division will complete a 200m swim, 5km cycle and 1km run.
USM EVENTS Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Meyer, said events such as the IronKids Mandurah encourage a healthy and active lifestyle amongst families.
“It’s great that we can include an IronKids event on the timetable.
“I commend those who take part and would encourage families in the local areas to participate. It’s a great chance for the kids to have fun, receive a finishers medal and there are some great prizes up for grabs too,” Mr Meyer said.
