Media release - Noosa Breakfast Fun Run attracts thousands of pink supporters
NOOSA, Australia (November 2, 2012) - Noosa was painted in a sea of pink this morning with thousands of breast cancer supporters taking part in the 18th annual Noosa Breakfast Fun Run as part of the 30th Anniversary Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival.
The five kilometre track saw competitors run, walk, even push prams and escort ‘man’s best friend’ along Noosa’s famous Hastings Street and back along beautiful Main Beach to the finish line.
First to cross the line was Adam Hulme from Alexandra Headlands who was proud to honour his mother in today’s event.
“My mum who is here today has just had cancer and she has fought through it and come back really well,” said Hulme.
“I thought the pain she went through over the past four months wasn’t even comparable to doing the run today so I thought I would just go for it today and go hard.
“Mum looks so well, she even has her blonde streaks back in. It’s a terrible thing when you lose your hair so for her to bounce back and for everyone else who bounces back from it, it’s a testament for the courage they have within them. I race hard for all of them,” he added.
In the women’s field, Buderim’s Lilli Burdon took out the title for the second year in a row.
“The tide was out compared to last year so it was a little better this year.”
“I was just running for fun this morning.”
“I am 14 and I really enjoyed it last year and I love running so I thought I would come out this morning and have fun.”
Event patron, Steve Moneghetti joined the festivities of the morning with his family.
“I have my family with me this morning, it’s a great atmosphere and it’s for a great cause so we wanted to make sure we were involved,” he said.
“It’s great to see so many kids out here today, building to a great atmosphere for the weekend ahead and I love being a part of it. This is what running is all about.
“I am actually having a run tomorrow in the Asics Bolt. It’s great to still be involved and still be remembered,” he added.
The event is recognised as a fun, social morning that everyone of any age can participate in, but what makes the event particularly close to the hearts of everyone is that proceeds are given to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation is Australia’s leading not for profit organisation promoting, raising and distributing funds for breast cancer research.
“All these runners are here today to raise money for the foundation and the funds raised goes to research programs. I was one of the survivors that went on the research program for The National Breast Cancer Foundation for health.
“Seeing this great lot of people all dressed in pink has brought tears to my eyes and I am just amazed that the community and organisers have got together for a wonderful exercise to support the foundation,” Sandra Harding said.
Across the Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival athletes competing for the National Breast Cancer Foundation have already raised over $50,000.
All proceeds from the event go to the Noosa Zonta Club for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and other chosen Noosa Zonta Club charities.
The Noosa Breakfast Fun Run has been part of the festival since 1994 and has grown from a humble few to well over 2000 participants.

The Noosa Triathlon Multi-Sport Festival is supported by Events Queensland as part of a growing calendar of sporting, cultural, regional and business events across the state.
