Rules & Regulations
Pre Event Participation
You must ensure that you have trained sufficiently and are physically capable of completing the event within your current level of health and fitness. You must also ensure at all times during the event that you are performing well within your level of skill and ability for each of the three disciplines. To not abide by these conditions can create potentially dangerous situation for yourself and other competitors.
Pre Event Training
When you are on the road cycling or running, remember the rules of the road. Do not ride two abreast on narrow road sections and obey all traffic rules. Being a competitor does not mean you are exempt or above the law. Be courteous to motorists and remember that wearing a helmet is compulsory in Queensland and police can issue on the spot fines for breach of this law.
Withdrawal & Cancellation Fee
You can cancel your own registration online by logging into your registration. You will receive an email confirmation of your cancellation. The following cancellation policy applies to all registrations:
- A 20% cancellation fee will be incurred if you withdraw up until 5pm Wednesday 6th March 2013
- A 30% cancellation fee will be incurred if you withdraw up until 5pm Thursday 6th June 2013
- A 50% cancellation fee will be incurred if you withdraw up until 5pm Thursday 3rd October 2013
- If purchased, your Triathlon Australia one day membership will 100% refundable up until 5pm Thursday 3rd October 2013
- No refunds will be offered from 5pm Thursday 3rd October 2013
Your refund will be processed within 7 working days onto the credit card you used to register for this event. If your credit card has expired please forward your new expiry date or if your credit card has been cancelled please forward your nominated bank account details to multisport@usmevents.com.au.
If you withdraw on race day before the race start, please advise the help desk near the gear tent and hand your timing band in. If you withdraw during the race, please report to the Festival Information Centre and advise them you have withdrawn and also hand your timing band in. If you do withdraw please DO NOT cross the finish line area.
Changes to Entry
Changes can be made to your race entry before 5pm Friday 11th October by contacting the USM EVENTS office - Email multisport@usmevents.com.au or Phone 07 5449 0711.
Adminstration fee's will apply to all changes made after 5pm Friday 12th October. Any changes to your registration after this date can be made at the Athlete Help Desk located at the Check-In Tent during Check-In times. These changes include but are not limited to categories, team members, and the swaping of team legs. Registration changes fee:
- Team Changes: $20
- Individual Changes: $10
Rules
Event is sanctioned by Triathlon Queensland. Triathlon Australia Race Rules apply. All disqualifications will be posted at the Festival Information Centre following the race. All enquiries about disqualifications must be made within 30 minutes after the results are posted and can only be discussed with the Race Referee. View Triathlon Australia Race Competition Rules.
Speed Suits
Triathlon Australia have updated their speed suit ruling as of July 2011.
SPEED SUIT RULING:
A competitor may wear a speed suit at any time during an event. Please note the Triathlon Australia definition of a speed suit, detailed here:
A speedsuit must be comprised of 100% textile material such as nylon or lycra and must not include rubberised material such as polyurethane or neoprene. The speedsuit may contain a zipper.
Race Numbers
Competitors are required to clearly display their race numbers throughout the event as follows:
Bike course: helmet number, bike sticker for the seat post
Run course: Race number, to be worn on the front
Throughout the event: ENDURA arm tattoo, ID wristband
Swim Course
Competitors are to keep the swim start area clear. Swim warm-up if required must take place behind the start line or off to the right of the swim course. It is a deep water start. All competitors to be at the swim marshalling area prior to 15mins from their wave start. You must follow the swim buoys precisely. Any short cuts will result in disqualification. Follow all directions of surf lifesaving officials. Ensure timing band is firmly secured on your ANKLE.
CUT OFF TIMES: All swimmers will be able to complete the swim course. Athletes must complete the swim by 10.26am, 38 minutes after the last scheduled team wave start at 9.48am (final wave starts as per website). Any remaining team cyclists in transition will be sent out onto the cycle course at this time.
TEAM COMPETITORS: Any team cyclists remaining in transition after 10.26am will be instructed to commence the cycle leg. All team swimmers will be able to finish the swim and make their way to the Teams Transition Area and hand the timing band to the team runner. All swimmers and runners will receive accurate timing splits.
Cycle Course
To ensure a fair race for all competitors you must rack your bike in your correct signed age group rack.
NO DRAFTING - experienced technical officals will be on the course and penalty boxes will be in use.
This is a one lap course. Extreme care must be taken at all times, especially on "The Hill" and as you approach the transition area as it changes to single file.
Timing is executed at the run exit.
Competitor’s upper torso must be covered at all times.
All cyclists must be at the bottom of Tinbeerwah (big hill) by 12.15pm. Any cyclists unable to reach this cutoff will be collected by event SAG wagons. Any remaining team runners in transition will be sent out onto the run course at this time.
Police are on the course and all road rules must be obeyed at all times (e.g. Crossing double white lines) - they will book anyone breaking the law. Follow police directions at all times.
Run Course
It is a one lap out and back run course. Ensure that you use the aid stations to rehydrate.
WARNING - IF YOU DO NOT USE AID STATIONS AND CONTINUE TO RUN WHEN DEHYDRATED AND OVERHEATED, IT CAN BE DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH.
CUT OFF TIMES: Time 1.15pm. Every endeavour will be made to allow you to run to the finish line however you may be asked to move onto the footpath in order to allow the scheduled reopening of roads.

Team Information
A team swimmer must not remove the timing band until within the transition area.
The team cyclists must remain in their position in transition with their bike racked until the swimmer has tagged the cyclist. The swimmer needs to pass the timing band onto the cyclist.
Once returned to transition the team cyclist must rack their bike before the runner can leave on the run leg. Team runners must wait in the team cyclist’s bike rack position. Remember to take the timing band off the cyclist before exiting transition.
