Official Charities
Five wonderful charities have been selected as the 2012 Noosa Triathlon official charities and are also involved in the Noosa Triathlon Charity Program. The following five charities will be the holders of a limited number of 2012 Noosa Triathlon entries, which are available for enthusiastic fundraisers. If accepted for a Charity Entry, you will be obligated to raise a minimum amount of funds for the charity (amounts stipulated by the individual charities).
There is also the opportunity to either set up a fundraising page or simply donate to one of our official charities or another of your favourite charities.

Smiling for Smiddy funds research into our most common men’s and women’s cancers. Established in memory of Adam Smiddy who lost his battle against melanoma aged just 26, Smiling for Smiddy challenges hundreds of cyclists and triathletes each year to make their mark against this devastating disease.
More than $2.5 million has been raised for research since 2006 into areas including melanoma, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer and complementary therapies for cancer patients.
Chances are you’ve seen cancer affect someone close to you. Set yourself an inspired cycling or triathlon challenge and feel the spirit, find yourself and fund a cure.

In 2012, Childhood Heart Disease (CHD) is the biggest cause of infant mortality and early childhood hospitalisation. Every day in Australia, 6 children are born with CHD, and every week 4 young Australians die from its consequences. HeartKids' mission is to help and represent those affected by Childhood Heart Disease in Queensland. Since 1984, HeartKids has been offering support, encouragement and hope to Queensland families of children with Heart Disease, while raising awareness and vital research funding into the causes of this chronic disease. By entering the 2012 Noosa Triathlon as a HeartKids entrant, you will be helping to keep Queensland kids’ hearts beating. Your fundraising can make a difference to a child, their family or the entire community.
Here are some examples of how donations are used at HeartKids Queensland.
- $50 can buy emergency in hospital meals for a parent for a week whilst their child is in hospital.
- $100 can provide parking for a family for a week at the hospital
- $135 can provide test strips for a child to test their medication levels for a year.
- $150 can provide one night’s accommodation for a regional family to stay in Brisbane whilst their child is in hospital.
- $250 provides a Family Support Worker for a day, to support families in hospital.
- $500 gives 10 families Play Therapy Strategies, to assist their children to manage anxiety associated with multiple, long term hospital admissions.
- $1,000 can provide a teenage HeartKid a unique opportunity to socialise with other HeartKids at the annual Teen Camp, with full medical supervision.
- $2,000 can provide a researcher for a week to investigate the causes of childhood heart disease.
- $3,500 can provide a holter monitor, a portable computerised device which is used to monitor and detect abnormal heart rhythms.

One in nine women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. NBCF has an aspirational goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. Can you help us achieve this? The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is the leading community-funded national organisation in Australia supporting and promoting research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer. Since NBCF was established in 1994, more than $74 million has been awarded to approximately 300 research projects across every state and territory, to improve the health and wellbeing of those affected by breast cancer.
Research programs funded by NBCF cover every aspect of breast cancer, from increasing understanding of genetics to improving ways to support women and their families.
We are very excited to announce that NBCF has a limited number of charity places at this year’s Noosa Triathlon. Please contact us at teampink@nbcf.org.au if you are interested in supporting breast cancer research at this event.
