ALL 50km RIDERS TO DO KIN KIN LOOP:
The USM Operations team inspected the course earlier in the week following the recent heavy rain in the area. The Intermediate/Ringtail loop has become technically and physically more challenging eg; very heavy going after the rain than the Advanced/Kin Kin loop, therefore the race director has advised all 50km riders will be doing the Kin Kin loop. (Competitors will still be racing in their separate division's. eg. intermediate and advanced)
“In the current conditions an intermediate rider will find the Kin Kin loop dryer and more rideable than the flatter, low lying Ringtail course. After riding both loops in similar conditions at an intermediate fitness level, I would much prefer to ride the Kin Kin loop as opposed to pushing through the damp Ringtail loop” said Sam Adam, Project Manager.
While the Kin Kin course does contain more hills, under the current conditions this loop is more enjoyable and achievable which will result in less time out of the saddle than what would be experienced on the current Ringtail course.
100KM RIDERS REMAIN ON CURRENT COURSE:
At this stage the 100km event will do both loops as per normal (do expect slight changes to course) provided the weather conditions improve. The weather and course is being monitored daily and regular updates will be posted on the event website. All efforts will be made to improve the track conditions by race day. The Ringtail loop will be muddy but challenging.
*BEWARE ! – Please DO NOT presume you know the course, slight changes will be made to lessen the hardest hit sections.
If you despise the mud we recommend 100km riders change to the 50km Kin Kin loop. - Click here to send an email requesting distance change.
The final decision on the 100km course is at the Race Directors discretion, more information will be available at registration on Saturday (3pm-5pm at the Noosa Marina).
