Safety & Race Rules

 Safety of your Equipment
  • Entry requires an Australian Standard helmet
  • All bikes must have plugs in the ends of the handlebars and bar ends
  • All bikes must have two (2) working brakes
 Race Rules
  • Stay on the marked course.  If you veer off the course, return to the point where you exited to continue racing.  Take no short cuts to gain advantage
  • Tell the timing officials if you withdraw from the race
  • Be self-reliant.  Start the race with the tools and spares you may need
  • Injured riders must be assisted
  • If walking or running, give way to riders on the course
  • Call your number at all check points
  • Lights – 100km competitors must carry a light on their bike or person
  • One Way – Once on course all riders must ride only in the correct direction on the course.  In the event of a breakdown or injury, medics or sag wagons will be in attendance
  • Accidents – If a rider comes across an accident they must stop to see if the fallen rider is OK and wait for the next rider to come along so that a message can be passed to the next checkpoint or race marshal
  • Passing Others – Riders wanting to pass another rider must call ‘TRACK LEFT’ (to overtake on the left) or ‘TRACK RIGHT’ (to overtake on the right) and wait for a safe place to overtake.  Have consideration for all other riders
  • Cut Offs – As the time limit is reached at each check point, the track will be closed and riders will not be able to proceed on the designated course
  • Road Rules – THERE ARE NO ROAD CLOSURES. The course crosses main roads and travels along local roads. You must dismount to cross where advised, and abide to all normal road rules when riding on a road. – Failure to comply with these rules will result in disqualification.
  • Be Prepared – Take food and water with you.  There will be 3 checkpoints for the 100km distance and 1 for the 50km distances.  Check points will have water, Endura and food available. 
 Check Points

Check Point #1 (31kms) – Gumboil Water Tanks (100km & Intermediate 50’s)

Check Point #2 (50kms) – Stan Topper Park (100km riders only)

Check Point #3 (75kms)– Kin Kin (100km and Advanced 50km Riders)

All competitors must call their race number when passing through checkpoints, timing chips must be worn on the left ankle.  All three check points will have food, water and Endura sports drink.  The 50km rides pass through 1 check point only.

 Medical

There will be adequate medical staff and facilities throughout the race and on course.  Please ask for medical help if you have any hint you may need it.  There is a radio network on the course – advise the nearest marshal to obtain medical help.  Please note:  USM Events is covered by its own public liability insurance, this does NOT include personal accident insurance.  It is highly recommended that competitors take out their own personal accident and ambulance cover for the event. 

 Warning

Please ensure that you are sufficiently skilled in all aspects of the event and have attained a relevant level of fitness to be able to complete the event confidently.  You must ensure that you are in good health and not suffering from any illness that will cause you difficulties during the event.  You must ensure that you understand and abide by all relevant event rules and all applicable course rules.  Please ensure that you are sufficiently fit and prepared to compete under all race conditions.  Also ensure that you maintain correct hydration practices before and during the race.  If you have any concerns at all please notify race organisers.  To assist our medical teams please write any existing medical conditions or allergies in waterproof ink on the back of your bike number.
