About the Festival
Recognised as one of Noosa’s premiere major events and one of Australia’s most popular Jazz industry gatherings, the Noosa Jazz Festival Presented by Valad and Ashington brings over 150 Australian and International artists to Noosa, producing an impressive 4-day Jazz spectacular.
Artists perform in many of Noosa’s famous restaurants as well as in purpose-built jazz venues, for the full 4 days of the festival.
All Noosa visitors and local residents are invited to attend any of the numerous open-air concerts, exclusive performances, historical jazz feature-shows and daily free gigs to experience the huge variety of jazz our musicians have to offer.
The Future of Programming
Few jazz festivals in the world stay true to their name; keeping traditional jazz styles as the core of their programming. The Noosa Jazz Festival is loyal to its long-tem traditional jazz supporters as well as the modern enthusiasts, mainstream and swing lovers and even programming venues for the nu-jazz/commercial/popular trends that are infiltrating the industry.
Traditions continue… the Festival is committed to maintaining traditional styles of jazz within the industry and its own event. Each year we pay tribute to one of the founding members, Mr Frank Johnson, who has since passed away, but we are very luck he has left us this legacy.
2009 will also recognise the 75th Birthday Celebration of iconic legend trumpeter, Bob Barnard. Each year we recognise the contributions of iconic jazz musicians to the Australian jazz scene as well as to the development of Traditional jazz around the world.
Up & comers… the Youth in Jazz program supports the future of the Queensland jazz industry. We are proud to present the cream of Queensland’s Jazz Big Bands over the festival and wish to inspire these young musicians. These ‘free to the public’ concerts have grown to become another popular event on the program with over 450 participating students who, over the three days entertain thousands of people in a relaxed ‘Noosa style’ atmosphere.
