Series raises valuable funds for LETR

The 2009/10 Gatorade Queensland Tri Series was again delighted to team up with the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) as the official charity, and the triathlon family showed it’s community spirit in helping to raise $16,738.50 across the seven events.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is a global initiative which raises money and awareness for the organization.

Their goals are to encourage people with intellectual disabilities to take part in regular sporting events and by fund raising, be able to reduce the financial burden for families with members who suffer from an intellectual disability.

In 2008/09 USM EVENTS donated over $11,500 to LETR and is pleased to have topped that figure in 2009/10 series. The amount was achieved across a number of initiatives during the season including; a donation from every entry, proceeds from the Star Class program where only 10 athletes at each event receive an exclusive race package, along with raffles and online donations.

Law Enforcement Torch Run Qld representative, Brett Price says he is delighted with the result achieved this season and thanked all competitors and USM EVENTS for their valued contribution.

“Through your support and efforts the money raised from the 09/10 series will help provide much needed resources in several new Special Olympics Regions – Toowoomba, Ipswich, Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

“People with intellectual disabilities in these regions will now have the opportunity to participate in sports and benefit from fitness and a healthy lifestyle through sports programs.  Your efforts mean so much to a group of very special people. I thank you on their behalf,” Price said.
