The Challenge Family
Challenge Cairns is part of the global Challenge Family series of half and full iron distance races that features events in Germany, France, Spain, Denmark and Austria, New Zealand and now Australia. See below for details on each of the races or visit www.challenge-family.com.
The Challenge Family global series of events currently features the following events in 2012:
21 January – Challenge Wanaka, New Zealand
Set against the lake and mountain backdrop of Mount Aspiring National Park in New Zealand's South Island, Challenge Wanaka's terrain, remoteness and honesty of the course makes it one of the most memorable.
14 April – Half Challenge Fuertaventura, Spain
Are you tough enough for Fuerteventura? Playitas Challenge Fuerteventura is the newest member of the Challenge Family and promises to be a testing half distance on this stunning Canary Island.
27 May – Half Challenge Barcelona Maresme, Spain
Home to both a half and full distance race, Barcelona Mareseme is set on the shores of the Mediterranean with a spectacular ride and run along the coastline.
3 June – Challenge Cairns Great Barrier Reef, Australia
10 June – Half Challenge Kraichgau, Germany
The fastest growing long distance triathlon in Europe, Challenge Kraichgau is full of the Challenge emotion with over 3,000 athletes.
17 June - Half Challenge Aarhus, Denmark
Beautiful country side, spectacular city feel, high quality and service for athletes and spectators - KMD Challenge Aarhus is the 'must do' half distance triathlon in Europe.
8 July – Challenge Roth, Germany
The largest iron distance triathlon in the world, renowned for its record-breaking times and unforgettable atmosphere. The place where it all began...
12 August – Challenge Copenhagen, Denmark
With the location in one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals both athletes and spectators can expect a magnificent and unique experience that has not been seen at a long distance triathlon anywhere else in the world.
19 August - Challenge Vichy, France
Challenge Vichy replaces the Half-distance Challenge France and gives competitors the chance to swim in Lake Allier, ride on beautiful roads of Auvergne and finish in the parks of Vichy alongside the river.
2 September – Half Challenge Walchsee-Kaiserwinkel, Austria
Where others enjoy their holidays, athletes will for the first time compete at the Tyrol Challenge Walchsee Kaiserwinkl in 2010, in the picturesque Kaiserwinkl region in the Tyrol. With the slogan “A Dreamlike Day in the Tyrol” it marks the first competition of the Challenge Series on Austrian soil.
16 September – Challenge Henley-on-Thames, UK
Located on the north side of the scenic River Thames in Oxfordshire, Henley-on-Thames was founded in the 12th century and is known as one of the region’s loveliest towns, with flower-filled gardens, quaint shops, waterfront pubs and places of historic interest.
30 September – Challenge Barcelona-Maresme

6 November - Challenge Capetown, South Africa
This city, which brings you the finest wine, never ending backdrops and rich history, is now adding what will be the new jewel in Cape Town's sporting Crown, Challenge Cape Town.
