Validation event for Ironman Australia 2009

1km swim • 33km cycle • 7km run

A record field turned up at the new home of the Gold Coast Half Ironman yesterday to compete in one of the toughest events on the USM calendar. Calypso Bay proved to be the perfect venue which enabled spectators to support their competitors regularly along the open-pan course and beautiful marina.

Sunshine Coast Triathlete David Dellow continued his good form over the Half Ironman distance easily winning the Half Ironman distance, while Sydney’s Lisa Marangon decimated the women’s field over the 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run.

The new Tanita Sprintman also attracted a big field in the lead up the Noosa Triathlon, where 400 competitors tackled the 1km swim, 33km cycle and 7km run distance.
